Indivisible KC Volunteer Fair

July 15th from 6 pm to 8 pm at the First Lutheran Church. 6400 State Line Road, Mission Hills, KS 66208.

If you have been active with Indivisible KC, thank you - please come. If you haven't been active with Indivisible KC yet, or you haven't been active for awhile - please come! Strength, energy, and motivation can come from being around like-minded, pro-democracy advocates, so - please come!  FREE FOOD!

Government by the People founder and spokesperson, Winston Apple, will make a presentation and we will have a table at this wonderful event.

Meet and Great with Champions of Democracy

July 18th from 5 pm to 7:30 pm at Tim's Pizza. 17201 East 40 Highway, Independence, MO 64055.

It's a petition signing party. Champions of Democracy among the candidates for the Jackson County Legislature and for Jackson County Executive will certify their status as Champions of Democracy by signing petitions for our ballot proposals ("The Magnificent Seven"). Citizens who are registered to vote in Jackson County will be able to sign petitions as well.

There will be live music, including an opportunity to sing along as a member of the O. K. Chorale. (No skill as a singer required.)

There will be free pizza and soft drinks.

Blank petitions will be available for distribution.

Attendees who want to lend a hand will also have an opportunity to help collate 1000 copies of our seven initiative petitions. The term "collation" has two different meaning: the act of collating something: and a light informal meal. We will meet at one or more restaurants with event spaces and combine the two meanings.

Ten Days of Action: August 4th through August 14th

We are already actively gathering signatures on initiative petitions for three proposed ordinance that wills secure economic rights for the people of Jackson County and four proposed amendments to the Home Rule Charter that will make the government of Jackson County a perfect democracy.

If we gather the required number of signatures by August 14th, these proposals will be on the ballot in Jackson County on November 3rd. In the ten days leading up to that deadline, we will be focused intently on gathering the required number of signatures and having a really good time doing it.

A common theme of these events will be to accentuate the joyous nature of promoting democracy. We are not protesting. Democracy is coming and we are celebrating (while organizing and doing the work of making our government our own).

The Art of Democracy at the Polls

August 4th. Primary Election Day. 6 am to 7 pm. Various polling places in Jackson County, Missouri.

I (Winston) am planning to do a one-day mini-concert tour of as many polling places as I can squeeze in. I am hoping to have a few members of the O. K. Chorale with me. I will post a list of polling places and times as soon as I complete a trial run to figure out how many stops I can manage. At each location, I will lead a sing-along with whoever is there to vote consisting of "Power to the People", "Which Side Are You On?", and a few short pro-democracy jingles.

We will be handing out information about "The Magnificent Seven" and places and times when petitions can be signed.

We will need as many volunteers as possible to hand out literature at as many polling places as possible throughout the day. . If you are willing and able to help distribute campaign literature, please send an email to info@governmentbythepeople.org or use the contact form to volunteer.

A list of times and polling places when and where we will have volunteers will be posted on this website on August 3rd.

Primary Election Day After Parties

August 4th. Primary Election Day. 7 p.m. At a venue or venues to be determined.

A chance to unwind, share stories, and enjoy each other's company after a busy day at the polls.

There will be music. Lots and lots of music. And singing and celebrating.

Apple Jam

August 9th. 6 p.m. at Knuckleheads. 2715 Rochester, Kansas City, MO

I (Winston) am having a birthday. I don't want presents, I want your presence. I don't want you to sign a card. If you are a registered voter in Jackson County, I want you to sign a seven initiative petitions. I would also like to encourage you to sing along and maybe even dance like nobodies watching.

There will be music. A lot of music.

"The Evolution of a Political Revolutionary"

August 11th at 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm in the Powerhouse Theater at the Roger T. Sermon Community Center. 201 North Dodgion Street, Independence, MO 64050.

I (Winston) will be performing a mostly musical, multi-media performance art project with a little help from my friends (and willing members of the audience).

Admission is free but seating is limited. Reserve seats by sending an email to info@governmentbythepeople.org.

Volunteers will be available in the lobby outside the theater between 7 pm and 9 pm to facilitate the signing of petitions and distribution of petitions (and other campaign materials).

Petition Submissions?

August 14th at noon - Jackson County Election Board.

We will submit any initiative petitions for which we have enough signatures. Hopefully that will be all seven petitions. If we are short on any of the petitions, we will continue gathering signatures and turn them in at later dates. If we don't have the required number of signatures on any of our petitions, this even will be postponed until a later date.

The initiative process in Jackson County is the most citizen-friendly in the world because there is no limited time frame within which signatures need to be gathered. Sooner or later, all seven of our proposals will be on the ballot in Jackson County. Democracy is coming to Jackson County.
